Condon’s Frolics

Here is another A minor tune. Notice the D chord comprising the C shape is used again. The A minor chords at the end of each part don't sound until beat 2 rather than beat 1. This idea will be developed further in the next version. I occasionally lift my index finger off the C natural in the A minor chords thus creating a small tension-resolution with the suspended 2nd (B) dissonance.

I start the descending progression on beat 2, with the next chord on 4 and the next on 6. I play this pattern three times but the last time the third chord is delayed until beat 4 of the following bar. This syncopated idea gives the accompaniment a very "funky" feel; this would work well for one tune in a set, followed by something that emphasized beats 1 and 4, thus reinstating the sense of jig time.

In the first four-bar phrase of the second part I emphasize the sixth beat, particularly in the middle two bars. I then move the accent to beat 3 for the first half of the second four-bar phrase. These accents add a rhythmic interest to the open D drone.
